What is Base Camp?
The Ascent Base Camp is a one-day immersion in the vision, values, tools and training that are required for the church planting venture. You will learn from seasoned church planters and get input from church planting strategists who will help you discern if this “climb” is one you should attempt.
Who Should Attend?
- Senior leaders who bring along younger leaders they are working with.
- Young leaders who may not yet know how God has gifted and called them.
- Anyone who is curious about the calling and challenges of church planting.
- Students who are discerning God’s call for future ministry.
- Those considering a call to ministry, regardless of the specific field, or path.
- People who sense that God may be calling them specifically to plant a church.
- Anyone who loves their city and wants to see more gospel outposts established.
Why Attend a Base Camp?
Like climbing a mountain peak, church planting requires much preparation and skill. The vistas from the peak are not reached without strict training, Spirit-dependency, and much prayer. Many hazards line the path up the mountain. As you consider the call God may be placing on your life — and specifically the potential of planting a church — wisdom would advise that you gain insight from those who have gone before.
C2C exists as a catalyst for church planting, and stands as a resource for the planter. It is our conviction that no planter should ever plant (climb) alone! The support, training, coaching and discernment of your climbing team, will be critical to your success.
Base Camp is just one step along the journey, but as you consider God’s call, it may be that Base Camp will clarify and strengthen your call and your resolve.
Who can ascend the hill of the Lord?
And who shall stand in His holy place?
— Psalm 24:3
What Does a Church-Leader-Mountain-Climber Look Like?
Humility and courage may not at first seem to be complementary terms, but in the life of a spiritual leader, both characteristics are critical. Like two sides of a coin, a godly leader needs a sober self-assessment in realizing that the call to ministry is much greater, and more challenging than any one person could hope to achieve alone, while simultaneously, leadership by its very nature, requires courageous decision-making and risk-tolerance that many lack.
Church planting is a challenging venture that requires all out commitment and absolute dependence upon the Spirit of God.
Psalm 24 asks and answers a provocative question: “Who can ascend the hill of the LORD? And who shall stand in His holy place?” (Psalm 24:3) There is only ONE who can ascend that hill! His name is Jesus and He is the “King of Glory!” The qualifications of “clean hands and pure hearts and forsaking of all idols” sadly disqualify all of us, but clothed in the righteousness given to us by Jesus Christ, we gain access to the hill of the LORD! We walk with humility, because we understand that our only merit for walking this path, is the merit credited to us through Jesus perfect life!
Simultaneously, we are inspired by risk-taking leaders who have gone before us. In his old-age, Caleb asked for the chance to tackle the difficult hill-country, filled with strong enemies and hazards, and when he cried out “Give me this mountain!” (Joshua 14:12) he affirmed his faith that God would fight the battles and would be with him!
